Call for papers
25 years after Irving Finkel’s path breaking conference at the British Museum in 1990 and 20 years after Alex de Voogt’s first colloquium in Leiden 1995, the 18th annual Board Game Studies colloquium will be hosted by the Swiss Museum of Games at La Tour-de-Peilz (Switzerland), from Wednesday 15st April to Saturday 18th April 2014. The Museum is happy to welcome you at the shores of Lake Geneva.
In collaboration with Véronique Dasen, professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Fribourg, the organizers would like to dedicate one entire day of the colloquium to recent research on knucklebones as instruments for play and divination. Otherwise the XVIIIth colloquium will welcome papers from scholars, game designers or collectors in any academic field.
The colloquium languages will be English and French.
Please submit proposals with a title and informal summary (in English or French) of no more than 200 words to firstname.lastname@example.org by January 16, 2015. Initial proposals should be sent as an email attachment in doc, docx or PDF format, together with a brief biography including previous publications, institutional affiliation and academic or other relevant credentials. If your paper is accepted, you will be invited to make a presentation at the colloquium. You should then provide a formal abstract of 200 – 500 words by 28th February 2015.
Presentations are to be given in English or French and should not exceed thirty minutes to allow for questions and discussion. PowerPoint or Keynote-type slide documents to support your presentation are welcome.
La Tour-de-Peilz is easy to reach via the airports at Geneva, Berne, or Zurich and by fast trains. Detailed information on travelling to La Tour-de-Peilz, accommodation, arrangements for the cultural visit and colloquium dinner will be provided on the museum website (www.museedujeu.ch).
